It is with heavy hearts that that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Perkins on August 23, 2026, at The Tishomingo Community Living Center. Born on November 3, 1940 in Corinth, MS to the late Roy and Willie Mae Perkins. She was 85 years old. Sue dearly loved her family, children, animals, and was a passionate fan of Elvis and The Lone Ranger.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. James F. Perkins, and his wife, Kay; her beloved nieces and nephews: Steven Perkins (Christy), Julee Maxcy (Kevin), Jayme Davis (Teddy), Jessica Headrick (Josh), Logan Perkins, Rosey Perkins, Raymond Perkins (Heather), George Perkins, and Jennifer West (Tim); as well as a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Willie Mae Perkins; her brother, Gary Perkins, and his wife, Linda; and her niece, Jeanne Perkins.

James Avon Lovelace, 92, of Burnsville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 17, 1934, in Burnsville, Mississippi, to Andrew and Hester (Lambert) Lovelace of Burnsville, MS.
James was a faithful member of the Berea church of Christ and was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He knew a wealth of information about genealogy, and even until his death he could tell you about kin folk you never knew you had. James knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was one of the first ones to visit when someone passed away.
James was drafted into the United States Army, but before entering the service he married the love of his life, Eloise Arnold Lovelace. They were blessed with 73 years of marriage and shared a lifetime of love, memories, and devotion to one another. James was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Arnold Lovelace of Burnsville, MS; four sons, Anthony Lovelace of Burnsville, MS, James David Lovelace of Corinth, MS, Stevie Lovelace (Jennifer) of Burnsville, MS, and Jeffery Lovelace (Michelle) of Richmond, TX; one daughter, Melissa South (Jerry) of Burnsville, MS; eight grandchildren, Taylar Lovelace of Richmond, TX, Mallory Lovelace of Burnsville, MS, Michael Lovelace of Burnsville, MS, Cameron Lovelace of Richmond, TX, Ethan South of Burnsville, MS, Chandler Lovelace of Richmond, TX, Brycen South of Burnsville, MS, and Brayden South of Burnsville, MS. James will also be missed by a very special caregiver who has become like family, Katie Miles; as well as the best care team he could ask for, Demetris Watkins, Cindy Hodum, Shayla Rucker and Allison Miller.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Hester Lovelace; and his siblings, Leon Barnes, Lois Fry, Paul Lovelace, and Andy “Buck” Lovelace.

IUKA, Miss – Darren Kevin Lynch, 57, of Iuka, Mississippi, died on Monday, September 14, 2026, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Darren was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and enjoyed attending when he was able. He was a big fan of Ole Miss football and liked watching movies in his spare time. Throughout the years, Darren found a lot of joy in music, by listening to it or creating it. He was a talented singer and taught himself to play guitar. He enjoyed spending his days outside, especially hiking at Tishomingo State Park or grilling out. Above all, though, Darren loved his family and spending time with them. His children and grandchildren brought him so much happiness, and he always felt so much pride when they were around.
Darren is survived by his children, Jerrica Lynch Groves (Andrew), Jessie Lynch, Leia Lynch, and Luke Lynch; his grandchildren, Chloe Lynch, Goldie Groves, and Ruby Jane Groves; his mother, Joan Lynch; his siblings, Cindy Lynch Sweat (Chris), Heath Lynch, and Derrick Lynch (Brittanni); his niece, Dani Kate Lynch; and a host of other loved family members and friends.

Christine Spoon, 89, of Burnsville, Mississippi, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at her home. Christine’s faith was a very important part of who she was. For most of her life, she was a member of Antioch Freewill Baptist Church, but later on, she enjoyed attending Mt. Zion and Fairview Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. The choir and gospel music brought her lots of joy, and she loved riding around town listening to it when she got out with her family.
Christine loved being outside. When she was able, she always made sure her yard was pristinely manicured and made sure the cemetery was well kept up. Even when she couldn’t get out of the car or see very well, it brought her lots of happiness for her family to bring her see all the flowers she had laid out. Hunting and fishing were especially near and dear to her heart, and she had out-hunted and out-fished everybody in Burnsville. Christine was very competitive. Rook, pitching washers, and cornhole were among some of her favorite pastimes, and she was celebrated as the ultimate Rook champion, famous for shooting the moon if someone else was about to win and still coming out ahead.
Christine was lovingly known as “Maw” or “Maw P” to everyone in Burnsville and was well known for her kind and welcoming spirit. She was a friend to all, and her home was always open for anyone looking for an ear to bend.
Above everything, Christine loved her family. Her grandbabies, great-grandbabies, and great-great-grandbabies brought her so much pride and joy, and she couldn’t wait for her latest great-great-grandbaby, Embreigh, to be born.
Christine is survived by her children, Lesa Elliott (Bobby) and David Hudson (June); her grandchildren, Jodi Powers (Bryan) and Matthew Hudson; her great-grandchildren, Lauren Harris and Katie Clayton (Brody); her great-great-grandchildren, Mason Davis, Kaden Davis, and Embriegh “Molly” Clayton; her siblings, Ernestine Whitfield and Norma Julen (Mike); and a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clay Hudson; her second husband, Tereal Spoon; her parents, Millard and Onie Blakney; her brother, Billy Blakney; and her sister, Lorene Johnson.

Frank Williams, Jr., 84, of Iuka, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at NMMC-Tupelo surrounded by his family. He was born on August 18, 1942, in Iuka, Mississippi, to Frank and Star Mae (Walker) Williams of Iuka, Mississippi.
Frank was a faithful member of Mt. Evergreen Church, where he served in so many capacities, but he especially loved being the door greeter on Sunday mornings and welcoming everyone in for worship. He was an electrician by trade, remaining a member of IBEW Local 852 until his death; however, he held many jobs over his life from owning a service station to serving his county as First District Supervisor from 1988-1992. He was well known for his years working in the maintenance department at NMMC-Iuka until Covid forced him to retire completely in 2020.
Frank graduated from Iuka High School in 1960 and served his country in the Army National Guard. Like many others in the 1960’s, after graduation, he moved to Chicago to find work. He found work there, but he also found the love of his life, a coalminer’s daughter from eastern Kentucky, Lana Gayle Lester. He worked as many as three jobs at a time there to support his growing family and save enough money to build a home in his beloved Iuka where his family would return in 1971. As soon as he returned to Iuka, he started acquiring land and cattle. Cattle farming was a passion he shared with his son, brothers, nephews, and eventually his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank loved to work, so much so that his hobby was just that, working on the farm. He loved the Lord, his family, and people. He never met a stranger, and everyone was his neighbor.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lana Gayle Williams of Iuka. His two daughters, Paula Michele Moore (Philip) of Iuka, Pamela Dawn Brown (Mike) of Iuka, and his son, Stephen Eric Williams (Salome) of Iuka; his grandchildren, Marli Blunt (Jordan), Jake Moore (Harlee), Grayson Sisung (Eli), Elijah Brown (Kaylee), Mickey Brown (Amanda), Shelley Williams (Nathan), Audrey Williams, Elisabeth Williams, and Meredith Williams; great-grandchildren, Vivian Blunt, Isla Reese Blunt, Cutler Moore, Miller Frank Moore, Ella Mae Brown, Addi Kate Brown, Walker Brown, Ruby Brown, Benjamin Brown, John Henry Williams, Alexandra Williams; sisters, Star Ann Hy (Ron) and Jane Robinson (Sidney), a sister-in law Kathy Williams (Issac), and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a retired factory worker at Garan’s for many years. She also worked various other jobs such as selling Avon and working in her church cafeteria at the desert bar for many years. Jonnie was a devoted member of Oakland Baptist Church, which held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed traveling with her church and Avon and quilting for her family. She loved her family and spending time with them was always a top priority for her.

IUKA, Miss – Dale D. Tapp, 79, of Iuka, Mississippi, died on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.
Dale was born on June 26, 1947, in Sheffield, AL, to the late Glenn and Twala Tapp. He lived a life of hard work and dedication, working at Reynolds for 20 years before becoming self-employed with Weather’s Auto Glass. Throughout the years, he explored many business ventures and was always on the hunt for a good opportunity. He was known to many as the “Mayor of Woodall” because he patrolled the community on his golf cart, keeping an eye out for snakes and geese. Dale loved feeding the squirrels in the park, enjoyed visiting the Amish, and was an avid Alabama football fan. He also loved visiting and exercising at the wellness center in Iuka. Above all, Dale loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. His happiest moments were often the simple ones shared with those he loved most, and that devotion to family will be remembered with great affection.
Dale is survived by his sons, Derrick Tapp, Glenn Tapp (Andrea), Jon Tapp (Melanie), and Nick Tapp (Tamara); his grandchildren, Coby Tapp (Kylee), Hannah Tapp, Eady Tapp, Avery Tapp, Cooper Tapp, and Andee Tapp; several nieces and nephews, many cousins, and a host of other loved family members and friends.

DENNIS, Miss – Jolene “Joe” Browning, 82, of Dennis, Mississippi, died on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Joe was born on December 26, 1943, at home in Tishomingo to the late Bud and Daisy Browning. He drove a truck for Sunshine Mills for 30 years before retiring, but his true passion was in heavy equipment operation. He worked on several sites during the building of the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Joe loved his family with everything in him. He adored gardening and dogs, especially his border collies and beagles, along with a good rabbit chase deep in the woods with his buddies in “Ole Blue”, his beloved 1985 GMC pickup truck. Joe enjoyed Southern and Bluegrass gospel music, and he was a dedicated member of Highland Baptist Church, where he dearly loved his entire church family.
