Spring fever has hit the Tishomingo County Master Gardeners! This week, members completed a beautification project at the county health department by removing and replacing overgrown crepe myrtle shrubs with a more modern, ornamental Pink Muhly Grass. This grass is a low-maintenance solution for the space in the front of the building. This particular grass was chosen for its airy, cotton-candy pink plumes that appear in late summer and fall, creating a stunning visual display. The grass is very drought-tolerant, and the plumes will fade to a soft tan in the winter. After planting, the ground was covered with landscape fabric for weed control and topped with a layer of long needle pine straw.
Community projects like this are made possible by donations and the proceeds from our annual plant sale. The 2026 annual Master Gardener Plant Sale will be held on April 11, 8AM to 12PM at the Tishomingo County Fairground. Are you ready for it? Our group of gardeners have been hard at work, making sure you’ll have plenty of your favorite plants to purchase! We will have several varieties of tomatoes, peppers and herbs, perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees, houseplants, hanging baskets and more! Remember to bring your own wagons or garden carts. See you at the plant sale!
