Summer Bucket List for Families in Tishomingo County

School’s out, the sun is up, and summer is officially here in Tishomingo County. Whether you’re looking to beat the heat, explore the outdoors, or just make some sweet family memories, there’s no need to travel far. Here’s your go-to summer bucket list packed with local adventures that are family-friendly, fun, and budget-conscious.

Cool Off at the Splash Pads

  • Iuka City Park has a small but popular splash pad perfect for little ones looking to cool off.

  • Don’t forget to bring towels, sunscreen, and maybe a picnic lunch for the nearby shaded tables.

Take a Nature Walk or Hike

  • Tishomingo State Park is a must for outdoor families. Try the Outcroppings Trail for easy hiking with beautiful bluff views or the Swinging Bridge Trail for a bit of adventure.

  • Bay Springs Lake Overlook Trail also offers a peaceful walk with water views and great photo ops.

Join the Summer Reading Program

  • Both Belmont Library and Iuka Library are offering summer reading challenges with prizes for all ages.

  • Weekly storytimes, crafts, and STEM activities are often scheduled—check with your local branch or follow them on Facebook for updates.

Plan a Picnic & Playground Day

  • Mineral Springs Park in Iuka is a shady, relaxing place with lots of green space.

  • For bigger playgrounds, try Belmont City Park or the Dennis Community Park, where kids can run wild while parents unwind.

Cast a Line Together

  • Grab a rod and spend an early morning or evening at Bay Springs Lake or Bear Creek.

  • Many spots are kid-friendly with shallow banks and shaded fishing piers.

Visit Local Produce Stands or Farms

  • Summer is the peak season for fresh tomatoes, corn, and berries. Stop by roadside stands or check out Tishomingo County Farmers Market on the weekends for fresh finds.

Catch a Small-Town Sunset

  • Load up the car, grab some drive-thru ice cream, and head to Woodall Mountain or Tishomingo State Park Lake to end your day with a sunset picnic.
