Report: Mississippi Can Raise Assistant Teacher Salaries by Cutting Administrative Waste 

Mississippi allocates a higher share of its K-12 education budget to administration than any other Southern state while assistant teachers are paid inadequately. State Auditor Shad White highlights that assistant teacher salaries, often lower than those of janitors, significantly lag behind private sector jobs, necessitating a $67.3 million investment to raise their pay.
