Amphiumas are elongated aquatic salamanders found in southeastern U.S. swamps and wetlands, growing 8.5 to 46 inches long. They have small legs and a significant amount of DNA. There are three species, each distinguished by toe count. Amphiumas hunt at night, preying on various organisms while evading predators like snakes and alligators.
