Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs: Serving Up More Than Just Great Food

By: Shelby Smith

BELMONT, MS – If you’re looking for a hotdog with a little extra love, you don’t have to look far. Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs, run by Sonya Harris, is more than just a food trailer—it’s a labor of love, a full-time commitment, and a blessing to the community.

With a menu featuring hotdogs, smoked bologna, chili cheese pies, chips, drinks, and homemade fried pies, Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs has become a favorite stop for locals. But the business is about more than just good food—it’s about faith, hard work, and giving back.

A Family Legacy in Food

For Harris, the food business isn’t just a job—it’s in her blood. Growing up in Mantachie, she watched her parents run a restaurant, learning firsthand the dedication it takes to feed a community. Those lessons stuck with her, and in March 2022, she turned her own dream into reality, building Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs from the ground up.

But make no mistake—this isn’t a part-time gig.

“People think I only work part-time,” Harris said with a laugh. “They have no clue that this is a seven-day-a-week job.”

What Makes Sonya’s Special?

Plenty of food trucks serve hotdogs, but Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs stands out for a few key reasons:

Famous Mustard Slaw – A signature topping that keeps customers coming back.
Cleanliness & Friendly Service – Harris takes pride in offering a welcoming, well-kept food trailer.
Commitment to Quality & Fair Pricing – Customers get great food at reasonable prices.
A Heart for People – Whether you can afford a meal or not, Harris makes sure no one leaves hungry.

A Business Built on Faith & Generosity

For Harris, success isn’t measured only in dollars—it’s in the impact she has on the people around her.

She started Blessing Meals, a program where customers can buy meals for people in need. The first meal received from the program was on 11/10/23. Since Christmas a year ago, over 75 people have been fed through this initiative—and that’s just the ones she’s counted.

“Before I started this, if someone told me they were hungry and had no money, I wouldn’t let them leave hungry,” Harris said. “I don’t judge—God calls us to help others.”

Citing Matthew 7:1, she adds, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.”

With her customers’ generosity, the Blessing Meals program continues to grow, ensuring that those going through hard times always have a place to turn for a hot meal.

An Award-Winning Local Favorite

Sonya’s dedication to great food and community service hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2023, she was voted Best Food Truck in Tishomingo County, a testament to the quality, service, and heart behind her business.

Looking Ahead

For now, Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs is focused on growth—not through expansions, but by continuing to please customers and serve the community.

Her advice for anyone looking to start a similar business?

“Make sure it’s what you want to do. It would be an awesome business for a young person or a young couple—but it’s a lot of hard work.”

How to Support Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs

Want to help Sonya’s business thrive? Here’s how:

With hard work, faith, and a community that supports her, Sonya Harris has turned Sonya’s Hot Diggity Dogs into more than just a food truck—it’s a beacon of kindness, generosity, and great food.

And as long as she’s behind the grill, no one in her community will go hungry.
